Alice - Final Cut

Feedback From Rough Cut

Feedback that we received from our Rough Cut

More incidental sounds, could add ambient sounds to non- diegetic score.
Edit title sequence- include Livetype titles, include sources of funding e.g.-"national lottery" and rethink title order "don't have director placed first in the timeline".
"Good use of sound", Livetype titles would be better, the titles aren't conventional.
Titles (Deadline Productions) at the start of the film needs to last longer.
Really good editing, could include more incidental sounds.
Include more ambient sounds.
Difficulty in understanding genre of the film and its narratives.
Good use of sound and camera effects. Good use of the newspaper article in the editing to portray backstory. "Could use a wider range of sounds".
Include wider range of sounds in the editing process such as incidental and ambient.
Good use of sound, effective editing when the shots of Alice are strung together quickly one after the other.

9 Screen Analysis of Opening Sequence

  1. The first shot shows us the house in which the murders took place. It is shot on a stormy night. A flash of lightning reveals the front of the house and a sign that reads 'high hopes'.
  2. This shot shows us the name of the film. It is a font like 'American Typewriter' in white, on a black background. I believe this font has been changed slightly to look more horrific. The black background with white writing shows that this title is not meant to be happy, instead its meant to be dark like a horror title should be.
  3. This is an image of a dead man in negative. Its doesn't show us much but we can see that there is blood around his head and because it is in negative we can see that this relates more to horror than a crime drama.
  4. Here we see an imagine of a book that has many scribbles on the pages and written on one page are the words 'KATCHEM + KILLEM' in bold capital letters which stand out. We can tell from this that this has been written by a rather sadistic person as the image looks quite hectic and scary.
  5. This shot shows the title of a column in a newspaper. It reads 'Family Slain in L.I Home'. This tells us that the murders that took place in this home were very bad as the term 'Slain' was used which relates to killings in battle, many horrific deaths.
  6. In this shot we see a picture of two men and a woman attached to what looks like a police file as there are fingerprints to the right of the image. This tells us that one of the people in this image could be the murderer.
  7. This shot shows a cemetery with many people attending a burial. This could be the family of the people that were killed in their home. Although this image doesn't actually show us a close up of a burial, it is just a long shot showing us a lot of people. This could mean that the film just relates to death al lot.
  8. This is an image of a young dead girl. She is propped up against a wall with blood spatter around her head. This girl could have been in the family that was 'Slain' in their home. The environment that this girl is in looks rather scruffy which relates to some horror conventions in various films.
  9. This is the last shot of the opening sequence. It is another shot of the book, but this time it is on a different page. The words written on the pages are 'KETCHAM' and 'KATCHEM + KILL'. This tells us that this person wrote on many pages of this book with sadistic thoughts. This could be the memo's of the killer which tell us that he is going to catch these people and murder them.
